In a move to offer users an
effective solution to both their information technology (IT) and accounting needs, Compaq
Computer Asia-Pacific and Fact Software International announced that they are joining
forces to launch a solutions partner programme.
Under
the programme, the two companies are undertaking joint marketing initiatives to offer
bundling options of Compaqs range of desktop personal computers and servers and
FACTs business accounting software.
The programme, aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises,
is the first of what is being planned to be a series of initiatives by both companies.
Over recent years, we have witnessed a change in the
way in which IT companies do business, said CJ Ang, general manager of Compaq
Computer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
We believe that there is more to being a vendor than
offering products. We need to think beyond that to offer clients the solutions that really
meet their needs, he added.
Ang said with the programme, Compaq dealers could sign up
to be solution providers if they wish.
Compaq and Fact said they are in the process of identifying
and categorising the existing Compaq dealers into those who are already solution
providers, those who wish to be but lack the know-how, and those who want to remain as
box-pushers.
This partnership will span the region, covering 13
countries, currently including Singapore, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri
Lanka, and later to be extended to the rest of the Asia-Pacifi region before the end of
this year.
For hardware and software companies alike, the future
lies in offering users solutions rather than just products, said Arvind
Agarwalla,
director of Fact Software International Pte Ltd.
This is particularly important in the small to medium
enterprise market, where users are seeking an effective solution to both their hardware
and software needs, he added.
