SYMPTOM:You have designed a Cross
Tab Report (with 'Default Print' mode). Now, you want to print your Report. However, you
observe that you can only view your Report on the screen. The Report Generation window
shows the other options disabled.
CAUSE
As per the standard user
requirement, Cross Tab Reports were meant to be extracted only under the Text Mode
Printing, i.e., typically on Dot-Matrix Printers. The default Printing Mode of any Report
being 'Graphic', such a Cross Tab Report can only be generated on the 'Screen'. Hence,
other options in the Report Generation window appear disabled.
RESOLUTION
If you are using PERKS 2.50
or lower, then you can adopt the following workaround:
Modify the Page Layout of the
design and set the Printing Mode as 'Text'. Then, save your design.
To print the Report on a
Printer, select Reports / Cross Tab from the menu, and choose the design.
Now, you will observe that the option Spool To File gets enabled.
Choose it, and specify the
File name. The System will spool the entire Report as a Text File (along with its layout
properties).
Open this spooled file from
an Editor, and send it to print. Otherwise, from the Command Shell of the Operating
System, you can send it to the Printer, e.g., from the DOS Prompt of a Win 95/Win NT (or
Win 98) machine, issue the following command:
TYPE
<Drive>:\<Path>\<Filename> >PRN
However, the users of PERKS
version 2.51 (and upwards) will be able to take printouts directly under the
'Graphic' mode.
