SYMPTOM:The User Maintenance module of PERKS permits
creation of a class of previleged users, who enjoy some additional Rights that are not
dependent of the Security Group to which they belong. They are known to
be Manager Equivalent users.
Thus, if you inadvertently mark a PERKS user as Manager
Equivalent, then, despite tagging him to a particular Security Group,
he will continue to enjoy additional privileges.
Now, consider the following scenario.
The Manager, as and when the situation
may demand, performs jobs, like creating users, and assigning Rights to the respective
menu options, etc.
If, for some reason, the Manager is not
available, then there must be some other user to step into his shoes. This need not be
concerned with all kinds of data and operations, unlike the Manager does.
So, this user does not need Rights in every Company and
across all options. Therefore, sharing the Password of Manager will
defeat the purpose.
RESOLUTION:
Anyway, this user needs power to assign and revoke
Rights. Effectively, he almost becomes an equivalent to the Manager.
Hence, PERKS incorporates the concept of the Manager Equivalent users.
While defining a user account, turning on the check box
titled Manager Equivalent does the job. So when the Manager is
not around, this user can take charge of affairs as indicated above.
A Manager Equivalent user will be able
to work with Security Groups and User Maintenance. Like
the Manager, he will, also, be able to create new, change the attributes
of, or delete existing Companies. However, he will not be able to give Rights to users on
Companies, that he, himself, lacks Rights of.
For ensuring more security to your System, the Companies
may be defined with 'Audit Trail' activated. This would go on to internally maintain an
Activity Log for the System on which user is doing what - something, which can make use
of, for future analysis.
Regarding the other standard options (like those under
the Masters or Payroll), the Manager Equivalent user
will enjoy Rights as determined by his Security Group.
